We are currently looking for a Mobile Concrete Field Technician to join our friendly South Wales and South West Ready-Mix Technical Team, based at Tarmac's Stancombe Laboratory in Bristol.
The role involves a combination of laboratory and site-based activities, supporting Ready-Mix Concrete operations across the Bristol area, with additional support provided to RMX plants throughout the wider South West and Wales region. The position is easily accessible from Bristol, Weston-Super-Mare, Bath, Newport, Chepstow, and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Technical Supervisor, the Mobile Concrete Field Technician will be responsible for:
- Sampling, testing, and curing Ready-Mix Concrete from Tarmac supplying plants and customer sites in accordance with relevant British Standards and company procedures.
- Carrying out fresh concrete testing, including slump, density, temperature, air content, and specimen preparation.
- Crushing concrete cubes produced by field technicians across theSouth Westand Wales region at the required testing ages using a calibrated compression testing machine.
- Recording and entering test results accurately into SAP and other company systemson a daily basis.
- Completing all concrete cube records, curing documentation, and laboratory booking-in forms accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensuring all samples are returned to the Bristol laboratory for curing within the specified timescales.
- Monitoring the quality of materials and testing activities to ensure compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Supporting investigations into quality and performance issues where required.
- Carrying out all testing activities to the highest safety standards and within manual handling capabilities.
- Ensuring full compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality proceduresat all times.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience within the construction materials, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, or wider construction sector andpossessan understanding of concrete production, materials testing, and quality control processes.
However, applications are also welcomed from individuals with limited experience, as full training and development will be provided.
This is not a typical laboratory-based role. It is a practical, hands-on position requiring regular travel to sites, testing in operational environments, and close collaboration with concrete plants and customers.
Suitable candidates will:
- Be hard-working, reliable, and self-motivated.
- Have excellent communication skills and be capable of liaising with colleagues, operational teams, and customers at all levels.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in their work.
- Be able to identify potential risks and issues and take appropriate action(full training provided).
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Be IT literate and comfortable using laptops, tablets, and mobile applications (laptop and mobile phone provided).
- Possess good numerical skills and be confident handling calculations and interpreting test results.
- Be flexible in their approach to work and willing to support multiple locations when required.
- Have a strong commitment to Health and Safety.
- Hold a full UK manual driving licence, as a company van will be provided.
