Mobile Fitter
Jackson Hogg Ltd
Mobile Plant & Accommodation Engineer
Glasgow | Depot & Field-Based | Permanent
Jackson Hogg are supporting a well-established industrial services business with the appointment of a Mobile Engineer to support operations across Glasgow and the wider Central Belt.
This is a hands-on, field-focused role where you’re trusted to diagnose issues properly and get equipment back into service quickly, not just patch fixes.
Why this role exists
Demand across plant, accommodation and welfare equipment remains high, with assets constantly out on hire. To maintain service levels and avoid downtime for customers, the business needs an engineer who can respond to breakdowns, manage their own workload, and keep equipment moving.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll split your time between depot work and attending site-based breakdowns across the region:
- Diagnosing and repairing plant machinery, accommodation units and small tools
- Responding to customer breakdowns on-site, working efficiently to minimise downtime
- Completing service, maintenance and pre-hire inspections to meet hire commitments
- Carrying out electrical fault finding and diagnostics on mobile plant (excavators, dumpers, telehandlers)
- Completing welding and fabrication work where required (training available if needed)
- Handling cosmetic repairs, including panel work and touch-ups
- Managing van stock and parts requests through the depot
- Recording damage and ensuring accurate job documentation for customer billing
What they’re looking for
This suits someone used to working in the field, thinking on their feet and taking ownership:
- Background in plant, mechanical or field service engineering
- Strong fault-finding ability across mechanical and electrical systems
- Comfortable working independently across multiple sites
- Welding experience ideal, but not essential
- Full UK driving licence
What matters in the Glasgow market
Across Glasgow and the Central Belt, good mobile engineers are consistently in demand. Most businesses are competing on:
- Basic salary vs overtime potential
- Call-out expectations and coverage area
- Quality of vehicle and equipment provided
Engineers in this space typically move for:
- Less travel / better territory coverage
- More structured hours vs constant reactive call-out
- Stability over contract-heavy or agency-led environments
This role offers a balance – consistent work, structured support from the depot, and a realistic geographic patch rather than UK-wide travel.
Working setup
- Coverage across Glasgow and Central Belt
- Depot + site-based role
- Company vehicle provided
- Autonomous role with backing from an experienced depot team
Key expectations
- Work safely and comply with all H&S procedures
- Maintain tools, vehicle and work standards
- Represent the business professionally on-site
- Keep paperwork accurate and up to date
