Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer – Electrical Bias

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £45,000–£47,000, depending on experience
Hours: 36 hours per week, working shifts, with initial day-based training

Shifts: Week 1 - 06:00-13:30, Friday 6:00 - 12:00 - Week 2 - 13:30 - 18,00, Friday 12:00 - 18:00

The Opportunity

5S Recruitment is supporting an established manufacturing business in its search for an electrically biased Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer.

This is a varied, hands-on position combining reactive maintenance, planned servicing and electrical installation work. You will work across automated assembly equipment, injection moulding machinery, hydraulic presses and extrusion lines, alongside the factory services that support production.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will investigate faults, carry out effective repairs and identify improvements that help prevent repeat breakdowns. The position would suit an engineer who enjoys working across different equipment and taking ownership of problems from diagnosis through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance across production machinery, plant and building services.

• Diagnose and repair faults on automated assembly cells, injection moulding machines, extrusion equipment, hydraulic presses and conveyors.

• Investigate faults on PLC- and HMI-controlled machinery.

• Complete electrical installations for new machinery and equipment, including armoured cabling, lighting and power supplies.

• Support the installation and commissioning of new plant and associated equipment.

• Monitor machinery condition, report defects and recommend corrective action to improve reliability.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work in accordance with current legislation and health and safety requirements.

• Support apprentice development and share technical knowledge within the maintenance team.

About You

You will be apprentice trained, or have equivalent training, with an NVQ Level 3 or above in an electrical or multiskilled engineering discipline.

You should bring:

• Strong electrical fault-finding skills supported by practical mechanical maintenance experience.

• Experience diagnosing faults on PLC- and HMI-controlled equipment.

• A methodical approach to troubleshooting, safe working and maintenance documentation.

• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering and production colleagues.

Experience within a factory or production environment is preferred, particularly involving presses, plastics processing machinery, automated assembly, conveyors, single- and three-phase installations or panel wiring.

An HNC/HND, knowledge of BS 7671 18th Edition and IPAF certification would be advantageous.
