Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician

Location: Peterborough, UK

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Hours: 37 hours per week (9-day fortnight pattern)

Pay Rate: £21.20 - £23.20 per hour



About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician for a 12-month contract supporting a state-of-the-art engine test facility.

In this role, you will provide critical technical support to ensure high-quality data output across world-class performance, emissions, and mechanical validation capabilities. You will be responsible for maintaining, manufacturing, commissioning, and upgrading multi-million-pound test facility support systems and rigs, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary facilities teams, engineering groups, and external contractors.



Key Responsibilities

  • Breakdown & Repair: Respond to testbed and facility breakdowns using structured fault-finding and diagnostic techniques.

  • Maintenance & Installation: Conduct planned, preventative (TPM), and corrective maintenance, as well as installing new facility equipment.

  • Standard Work: Follow documented standard procedures using hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.

  • Continuous Improvement: Run improvement and root-cause investigation projects, presenting technical findings to the wider team.

  • Team Development: Train, mentor, and support apprentices and co-workers.

  • Workplace Standards: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment following 5S principles and safety standards.







Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications/Experience:

    • Completed full engineering indentured apprenticeship, OR

    • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline, OR

    • Substantial, relevant hands-on job experience (demonstrable experience is highly valued and can compensate for formal qualifications).

  • Technical Background: Broad knowledge of maintenance processes, machine shop operations, equipment, tools, materials, and quality objectives.

  • Schematics: Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings.

Desirable Experience:

  • Fault-finding and diagnostics on hydraulic or fuel systems.

  • Laser alignment of rotating equipment.

  • Background in relevant environments: Manufacturing, Industrial/Plant Maintenance, Utilities, Field Service Engineering, Process Industries, Instrumentation & Controls, Mechanical Engineering. (Note: This role is not suitable for light vehicle mechanics).

Subject Matter Expertise (Any of the following is a plus):

  • Mechanical Maintenance: Planned preventative maintenance (TPM) and rapid breakdown response.

  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics: System installation, circuit reading, fault diagnosis, and repair.

  • Pipe Fitting: Installation of site service systems including compressed air, process water, chilled water, low-pressure hot water, and diesel fuel lines.



Candidate Profiles

  • NVQ / Apprenticeship Route: Ideally 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • Degree Qualified Route: Ideally 2+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • Practical Experience Route: Significant industry experience will be prioritized over formal academic credentials.
