Multi Trade Operative – Reactive Maintenance
Location: South Yorkshire / Midlands to Newcastle
Working Area: Up to approximately 2 hours' travel from home
Type: Ongoing Self-Employed Contract
Rate: £150–£180 per day
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm

This is a self-employed opportunity. The successful Multi Trade Operative will be paid directly by our client and NOT by Andy File Associates.
The client will pay you directly for completed work following submission of your invoice to them. Andy File Associates does not process payment for this role.
About the Role
Our client is an established Facilities Management company providing reactive maintenance services across a wide geographical area.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Multi Trade Operative to join their team, carrying out a variety of reactive maintenance and repair work across residential and commercial properties.
You will need to be confident working independently, have a broad range of practical maintenance skills and be comfortable travelling to different sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will include a variety of reactive maintenance tasks, including:
- Basic joinery – changing locks, replacing skirting boards and architraves
- Plaster patching and making good
- Basic plumbing – changing taps, toilet cisterns and plastic pipework
- Basic plumbing repairs – including isolating copper pipework
- Basic electrical work – changing sockets and light fittings
- Identifying and reporting any additional or major repair requirements
- Taking photographs and providing clear notes of work completed
- Collecting materials when required
- Completing work to a high standard and in line with health and safety requirements
- Providing a professional and customer-focused service at each site
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Multi Trade, Maintenance or Property Maintenance role
- Good practical experience across joinery, plumbing, plastering and basic electrical work
- Your own tools suitable for carrying out general maintenance work
- Your own small van or suitable roof rack – preferred due to the requirement to collect materials
- A full UK driving licence
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Good communication and customer service skills
- The flexibility to travel up to approximately 2 hours from home
- A professional approach when working in customers' properties
- The ability to pass a DBS check
- A valid CSCS card is preferred but is not essential
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm.
Travel time is generally included within the 8-hour working day. Most jobs are completed within the normal working day, although there may occasionally be days where the work runs slightly over.
Where a full-day job is completed earlier than expected, the full day rate will still be paid.
Half-day work is very rare, but where applicable the rate will be £100 for the first 4 hours.
Tools & Equipment
You will be required to provide your own tools for general maintenance work.
A small van or suitable roof rack is preferred as you may be required to collect materials for jobs.
The client will provide specialist equipment or tools where a particular job requires something outside of your usual toolkit.
What the Client Offers
