A leading food manufacturing business is looking to recruit a Maintenance Technician to join its established engineering team in Gateshead. Operating from a modern, highly automated manufacturing facility, the company is committed to continuous investment in its people, equipment and production processes.

Job Description:

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining production machinery and site services to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime across the manufacturing facility.

Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs

Fault finding and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment

Supporting continuous improvement and equipment modification projects

Completing maintenance records using the CMMS system

Assisting with risk assessments and permit-to-work activities

Supporting root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures

Ordering and managing engineering spare parts when required

Working closely with production to maximise machine availability

Ensuring all engineering activities comply with health and safety legislation

Contributing to a proactive engineering culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement

Skills & Experience:

To be successful as a Maintenance Technician, you will ideally have:

Time-served engineering apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification

Experience within a manufacturing or production environment

Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding abilities

Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance

Knowledge of CMMS or planned maintenance systems

Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures

A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement

Excellent communication and teamwork skills
