Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer

Yolk Recruitment

Maintenance Engineer

Avonmouth
£54,000 + Excellent Benefits
4 on 4 off - 2 Days / 2 Nights
Permanent

Are you a Maintenance Engineer looking for a role where you can take real ownership of the plant rather than simply work through a list of PPMs?

We're recruiting for a well-established, process manufacturing site in Avonmouth, forming part of a large international manufacturing group.

This is a substantial industrial site with a broad mixture of automated production, processing and material handling equipment, giving engineers plenty of variety across both electrical and mechanical maintenance.

The engineering structure also offers genuine autonomy. There are four shift teams with one Engineer covering each

The site operates a 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off shift pattern, with a salary of circa £54,000+.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on position covering planned and reactive maintenance across the production facility.

You'll work across equipment including:

* Automated production and process machinery
* Large conveyor and material handling systems
* Mixing and processing equipment
* Motors, gearboxes and mechanical drive systems
* Pumps, valves and associated pipework
* Pneumatic systems
* Steam systems
* Variable speed drives
* Electrical control panels and three-phase systems
* Automated process control equipment

You'll be responsible for diagnosing breakdowns, completing planned maintenance and identifying improvements that can increase plant reliability and prevent recurring failures.

There is also plenty of opportunity to take ownership of smaller engineering projects and plant improvements. The engineering team are encouraged to investigate problems properly, identify root causes and see improvements through rather than simply getting equipment running again.

Electrical

You don't need to be a PLC programmer.

The important thing is having a good industrial electrical foundation and being comfortable fault finding across:

* Three-phase electrical systems
* Motors and motor control circuits
* VSDs and inverters
* Electrical panels
* Relays, contactors and associated control components
* Safety circuits
* Electrical drawings and schematics
* PLC I/O and basic diagnostics to support fault finding

Mechanical

You'll also work extensively across the mechanical side of the plant, including:

* Bearings, chains and sprockets
* Gearboxes and drive systems
* Conveyors and material handling equipment
* Pumps and valves
* Pneumatic equipment
* Mechanical strip-down and component replacement
* Fault finding across process and production machinery

What We're Looking For

The site is flexible on engineering bias.

An electrically biased multi-skilled engineer would naturally suit the position, but they are equally interested in a strong mechanical engineer who has credible electrical fault-finding ability and wants to continue developing electrically.

You could come from food/FMCG, packaging, recycling, aggregates, ports, utilities, heavy industry or wider process and automated manufacturing.

More important is someone who:

* Is comfortable fault finding rather than simply replacing parts
* Can work autonomously and make sensible engineering decisions
* Takes an interest in understanding the complete manufacturing process
* Communicates well with production teams and operators
* Looks for the underlying cause of recurring problems
* Wants to get involved with projects and plant improvements
* Is comfortable taking responsibility as the sole Shift Engineer

Package

Approximately £54,000

Plus:

* 4 on 4 off - 2 days / 2 nights
* Private medical insurance
* Enhanced pension
* 35 days holiday including bank holidays
* Employee assistance programme
* Cycle to work scheme
* Ongoing technical training and development
* Opportunity to further develop electrical skills
* Long-term opportunities within a large international manufacturing group

This would particularly suit an engineer who enjoys understanding how a plant works, investigating problems properly and being given the autonomy to make improvements.
