Sector: Floating Offshore Wind / Renewable Energy
Department: Naval Architecture / Technology & Innovation
About the Role
Green Scout is supporting an innovative floating offshore wind technology company in the appointment of an experienced Naval Architect.
The successful candidate will be responsible for hydrodynamic and aero-servo-elastic analysis, mooring system design and optimisation, and the assessment of global floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) performance across a range of environmental and operational conditions.
Working within a multidisciplinary Technology & Innovation environment, you will contribute to the development and optimisation of floating offshore wind platforms, collaborating closely with structural engineers, naval architects, control engineers and other technical stakeholders.
The role requires strong analytical capability, practical offshore engineering experience and a good understanding of relevant industry standards and design methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct coupled hydrodynamic and aero-servo-elastic modelling and analysis to assess the dynamic behaviour of FOWT platforms, towers, turbines and mooring systems.
- Perform analysis using industry-standard tools across a range of environmental conditions.
- Carry out integrated load analysis and dynamic response assessments covering extreme, fatigue and operational conditions.
- Assess platform and mooring system performance against relevant design standards.
- Design, assess and optimise mooring configurations for floating offshore wind turbines.
- Consider platform stability, station-keeping performance and fatigue life when developing mooring solutions.
- Develop and define load cases and design conditions in accordance with relevant industry standards.
- Support concept development, pre-FEED, FEED and detailed engineering phases.
- Collaborate with structural engineers, naval architects, control engineers and other multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Integrate mooring, tower, turbine and other systems into the overall FOWT design.
- Provide technical information and input to support structural analyses.
- Interface with subcontractors, suppliers and vendors regarding mooring components and equipment.
- Ensure equipment and components comply with project specifications and relevant quality standards.
- Conduct technical reviews and assessments of mooring system designs, calculations and supporting documentation.
- Provide technical support and guidance throughout engineering, construction and installation activities.
- Address technical queries and contribute to resolving engineering issues.
- Contribute to technical reports, regulatory submissions, client deliverables and technical presentations.
- Communicate complex engineering findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to R&D and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the adoption of emerging methodologies, tools and technologies.
- Maintain awareness of developments and best practice across floating offshore wind, offshore engineering and mooring system design.
Technical Experience
- 5+ years' experience in naval architecture, hydrodynamics or offshore engineering, with a focus on mooring system design, analysis and optimisation.
- Strong technical knowledge of aero-hydrodynamic analysis software such as:
- OrcaFlex
- DeepLines Wind
- Bladed
- OpenFAST
or similar platforms.
Experience with hydrodynamic analysis software including:
- OrcaWave
- ANSYS AQWA
- WADAM
- WAMIT
- or similar.
- Demonstrated experience in coupled hydrodynamic analysis and mooring system optimisation for offshore structures.
- In-depth knowledge of mooring system design and analysis, including dynamic response and station-keeping strategies.
- Strong understanding of hydrodynamic analysis and modelling, including wave loading, current forces and vessel/platform motions.
- Experience with mooring component selection, configuration/layout optimisation and fatigue analysis.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Good awareness of relevant codes, standards and regulatory requirements applicable to floating offshore wind and offshore structures.
- Specific experience with DNV or ABS standards would be advantageous.
Structural & Multidisciplinary Knowledge
- Knowledge of structural engineering principles relevant to offshore structures.
- Understanding of load-transfer mechanisms and structural integrity considerations.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Good understanding of cross-functional interfaces within complex offshore engineering projects.
