Shift pattern: 6pm-6am, 4 days per week - may include weekend shifts.

Salary & Benefits

  • Base salary: £40,000-£48,000 per annum

Role Summary

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Manchester. You’ll ensure production machinery is maintained, repaired, and running efficiently to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on bakery production machinery including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines

  • Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and updates in compliance with food safety standards

  • Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and operational efficiency

  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and hygiene protocols

  • Collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams during handovers and day-to-day operations

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment

  • Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on ability in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance

  • Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards

  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively during shifts

Desirable:

  • Experience working with bakery or FMCG production equipment

  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and pneumatic/hydraulic systems

  • Experience with CMMS systems or digital maintenance reporting tools
