We are looking for a friendly, organised and experienced Cook/Chef to join our children’s day nursery in Edgbaston. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing healthy, balanced and nutritious meals and snacks for children, while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness.
This is an important role within the nursery, supporting children’s wellbeing by providing varied meals that meet their dietary, allergy and cultural requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook fresh, healthy meals and snacks for children each day.
- Plan and follow nursery menus that are nutritious, balanced and age-appropriate.
- Ensure all meals meet individual dietary requirements, allergies and cultural needs.
- Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene, kitchen cleanliness and health and safety.
- Complete daily food safety checks, temperature records and kitchen documentation.
- Manage stock levels, food ordering and safe storage of ingredients.
- Work closely with nursery staff to communicate menu information, allergies and special dietary needs.
- Ensure the kitchen and food preparation areas are kept clean, organised and compliant at all times.
- Support the nursery’s commitment to promoting healthy eating habits for children.
About You
- Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef or Kitchen Assistant, ideally within a nursery, school, care or similar setting.
- A good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and allergen management.
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals for children in line with dietary requirements.
- Organised, reliable and able to manage a busy kitchen environment.
- Friendly and approachable, with a positive attitude and a genuine interest in supporting children’s wellbeing.
- Food Hygiene qualification preferred, or willingness to complete relevant training.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and safe working practices within a childcare setting would be beneficial.
Location: Edgbaston | Salary: £23,000 per year | Hours: 5 days per week, 8:00am – 3:00pm |
