We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming, independent specialist school in Harrow that supports children and young people with autism and learning disabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit multidisciplinary team in a well-resourced setting where therapy is fully embedded into each pupil's education.
The Role
Initially offered on a 3-day-per-week basis, this position has the opportunity to increase to full-time following a successful probation period, subject to caseload growth.
Working alongside experienced education and therapy professionals, you will play a key role in supporting pupils to develop the skills they need for greater independence and everyday success.
About the School
- Small independent specialist school in Harrow.
- Approximately 18 pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and learning disabilities.
- Pupils receive 1:1 or 2:1 support throughout the school day.
- The school follows an Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach.
- Purpose-built Occupational Therapy room with specialist sensory equipment including a vibrating wall, steps and slide.
- Collaborative multidisciplinary team with weekly therapy meetings.
Your Responsibilities
- Complete Occupational Therapy assessments for new pupils.
- Produce high-quality assessment reports and recommendations.
- Deliver direct Occupational Therapy interventions.
- Develop and review individual therapy programmes.
- Support pupils with:
- Sensory processing and sensory regulation.
- Sensory diets.
- Fine motor development.
- Self-care and personal independence.
- Daily living skills, including simple meal preparation.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants and families.
- Attend the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting every Tuesday at 2:00pm, working alongside Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals.
- Support pupils in achieving their Occupational Therapy targets, aligned to the school's Pathway to Independence curriculum.
Caseload
From September, the school will have approximately 18 pupils, with pupils typically receiving Occupational Therapy every three weeks (approximately six pupils per therapy day).
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.
- Passionate about supporting children and young people with autism and learning disabilities.
- Confident working independently whilst collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experienced (or keen to develop experience) in sensory integration, regulation strategies and functional life skills.
- Organised, compassionate and committed to achieving positive outcomes for every pupil.
Experience within SEN schools, autism services or paediatric Occupational Therapy would be highly desirable, although therapists with transferable experience are encouraged to apply.
