Entry-Level Occupational Therapist (Band 5 Equivalent)

Are you a newly qualified or early-career Occupational Therapist looking to begin your career in a rewarding educational setting?

Prospero Teaching is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school in Birmingham for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join their multidisciplinary team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or recently qualified Occupational Therapist seeking to develop their skills while making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

The Role:

  • Working within a specialist school environment, you will support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual goals.
  • You will work collaboratively alongside teachers, SENCOs, Teaching Assistants and external professionals to deliver therapeutic interventions that enable pupils to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.


The school supports pupils with a variety of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD & SLD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Physical and complex learning needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting welfare visist mileage paid £0.45 per mile
  • Assess pupils' functional, sensory and motor needs.
  • Develop and implement individualised intervention programmes.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group occupational therapy sessions.
  • Recommend and monitor strategies, equipment and environmental adaptations to support pupils' participation in learning.
  • Work closely with school staff to embed therapeutic approaches into everyday classroom practice.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and annual reviews.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and reports in line with professional standards.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and the wider SLT team.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Have full driving license and car
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or be eligible for registration before starting.
  • An interest in working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A compassionate, patient and child-centred approach.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist educational setting.
