Location: Dudley
Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on experience
Bonus: Up to £150 per month, equivalent to £1,800 per year
Total Package: Up to £36,800 per year including bonus
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30am - 5:00pm

We are recruiting for an Ocean Freight Export Operations Clerk to join a well-established and award-winning freight forwarding and shipping business based in Dudley.
This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in freight forwarding who has a strong understanding of ocean export documentation, bills of lading and carrier processes. The role would suit someone who is highly accurate, organised and confident working with export paperwork and shipping deadlines.
You will be joining a busy and supportive operations team, handling key export documentation duties and ensuring ocean freight shipments are processed correctly and efficiently.
The Role:
As an Ocean Freight Export Operations Clerk, you will be responsible for preparing, checking and processing export documentation for ocean freight shipments. You will work closely with customers, carriers and internal teams to ensure all documentation is accurate, compliant and completed within required deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and raising bill of lading instructions from shipper invoices and shipping instructions
- Submitting bill of lading instructions to ocean carriers via carrier websites, portals and internal systems
- Checking bills of lading carefully before sending to customers for approval
- Making amendments to export documents where required
- Handling VGM submissions through CNS and Destin8 portals
- Approving bills of lading and arranging documents to be posted to customers
- Completing Certificates of Origin, ATR and EUR1 documents via Ecert when required
- Working to customs, carrier and bill of lading deadlines
- Liaising with customers, suppliers, carriers and internal departments
- Updating systems and keeping accurate records
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams to manage daily and weekly workloads
- Supporting the wider ocean export operations team when needed
Requirements:
- Minimum 18-24 months' experience within freight forwarding
- Experience working with ocean freight exports
- Confident raising bill of lading instructions to ocean carriers
- Able to use carrier websites and online shipping portals
- Strong understanding of export documentation and shipping paperwork
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Able to work to deadlines in a busy freight environment
- Organised, proactive and able to use your own initiative
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams
Desirable:
- Experience using CNS or Destin8
- Experience completing Certificates of Origin, ATR or EUR1 documents
- Knowledge of BoxTop or similar freight forwarding systems
Training can be provided on certain systems and documentation processes where required.

- Salary up to £35,000 depending on experience
