Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Import Clerk to join the team at JAS Worldwide Logistics in Manchester. In this end-to-end role, you will manage shipments completely—handling everything from initial quotation right through to final door delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full lifecycle Ocean Freight Imports from quotation to delivery: Quoting clients, booking with carriers, managing customs entries, arranging haulage, and ensuring smooth final door delivery.
- Handle complete documentation and track milestones on a fully paperless system: Creating bills of lading, processing arrival notices, checking compliance, and keeping all milestones updated accurately in real time.
- Coordinate smoothly with overseas offices, shipping lines, and transport hauliers: Troubleshooting any port delays, managing demurrage/detention, and negotiating rates or service updates.
- Provide high-level customer service and proactive updates: Keeping clients fully informed of their cargo status before they even have to ask, ensuring a seamless experience.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: 4 to 5 years of solid freight forwarding experience specializing in Ocean Imports.
- System Skills: CargoWise experience is essential as this is the primary system used.
- Bonus / Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience with Air Freight is a plus.
- Strong, dedicated import experience is necessary.
- Hands-on background working specifically with sea and ocean freight operations.
- Experience handling shipment costs, margins, and regulatory/customs compliance (such as entries, bills of lading, and global trade lanes).
