An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Field Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy delivering major United Utilities infrastructure projects across the Northwest.
This OT Field Engineer role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) who enjoys working across operational technology, field surveys and site delivery. You'll initially support the United Utilities Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) Programme, carrying out asset surveys across approximately 270 sites, before progressing onto a wider portfolio of Operational Technology projects.
The successful OT Field Engineer will play a key role in delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting the design, commissioning and implementation of modern control systems across treatment works and network assets.
The Role
As an Operational Technology (OT) Field Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Supporting the delivery of Operational Technology projects across United Utilities sites
- Undertaking Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) asset surveys across approximately 270 locations
- Delivering Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) engineering solutions
- Supporting projects involving PLC, SCADA, HMI, Telemetry, IoT technologies and industrial data networks
- Producing technical documentation and engineering deliverables
- Reviewing design outputs and identifying engineering improvements
- Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Assessing design changes and communicating technical solutions to Project Managers
- Participating in technical reviews and project meetings
- Supporting the successful delivery of Operational Technology projects throughout the project lifecycle
This OT Field Engineer position offers the opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest water infrastructure programmes while developing expertise in modern Operational Technology systems.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Field Engineer with a background in ICA, SCADA and the water industry.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience as an OT Field Engineer, ICA Engineer, SCADA Engineer or Commissioning Engineer
- Electrical qualifications or completed electrical apprenticeship
- Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, HMI, Telemetry, IoT technologies and industrial data networks
- Experience within the water or wastewater sector
- Experience supervising ICA or SCADA contractors on live sites
- Experience preparing and reviewing URS documentation
- Experience preparing specifications for ICA, SCADA and telemetry equipment
- Experience attending FAT, SAT and UAT activities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving licence
The following would be highly advantageous:
- Previous United Utilities project experience
- Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity principles
- Experience working on Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) programmes
- Understanding of sustainability, whole-life cost and carbon reduction principles
