Operations Manager – Drainage or Groundworks
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 DOE
Location: South East England – Hybrid
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–4:30pm

We are recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to join an established drainage and civils contractor operating across the South East.
This is a coordination and operational management role, focused on ensuring projects are properly planned, resourced and supported from an operational perspective.
You will work closely with project and site teams, suppliers and senior management, taking responsibility for procurement, planning, processes, procedures and operational efficiency. A key part of the role will be identifying ways to improve how the business operates, reduce unnecessary costs and ensure resources and materials are planned effectively.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the operational requirements of multiple drainage and civils projects.
  • Manage procurement of materials, plant and services.
  • Plan material and resource requirements in advance.
  • Liaise with suppliers, negotiate pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and processes.
  • Improve planning, purchasing and resource allocation.
  • Monitor operational costs and identify areas for greater efficiency.
  • Coordinate between project teams, suppliers and internal departments.
  • Ensure materials, equipment and resources are available when required.
  • Identify operational issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Support senior management with operational planning and business improvement.
  • Develop systems and processes to improve organisation, efficiency and profitability.
  • Monitor performance and ensure agreed procedures are being followed.
  • Carry out occasional site visits where required to understand operational requirements.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong background in drainage, civils or construction who understands the operational side of the industry.
You will be organised, commercially aware and confident working with procurement, suppliers, planning and operational processes. You should enjoy looking at how things are currently done and finding ways to make them more efficient, cost-effective and better organised.
Full UK driving licence required.
