Job Description: Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Engineer (OME)  

Location: Bristol

Contract: Until 31st March 2027 (Potential to extend)

Conditions: 1 day a week in office, Inside IR35

Overview:

This role sits within a dedicated Skill Group alongside other engineers working within the technical discipline of Ordnance Munitions and Explosives (OME).

As an OME Engineer, you will be providing expert advice and managing elements of acquisition for a wide range of: Complex Weapons, General Munitions, and Pyrotechnic devices.

Requirements:

  • Generate technical requirements, defining technical deliverables/artifacts and updating other documentation for OME systems, including the considerations for through life support and associated costs.
  • Technical Data - Assist or act as OME technical expert, compiling technical data and overseeing the technical quality of engineering documentation, focusing on successful technical outcomes.
  • Legislation/Policy - Apply relevant OME legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation e.g DSA02. Also actively contribute to the update of Regulation and Standards.
  • Risk - Identifies and analyses technical hazards /project impacts then contributes to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed.
  • Design - Lead the design to meet the customer requirements within realistic constraints of time, cost, and performance, such as co-chairing/influence design reviews with industry.
  • Stakeholder Management - Collaborate and manage trade-offs with other sub-system teams and specialists, over technical requirements, and design compromises, to maximise successful system implementation and delivery.
  • V&V - Responsible/lead for the OME: test, verification, validation, and evaluation process.
  • Support - Manage the support and modification to an operational system including the assessment of system Certification, such as complying with Def Stan 05- 57.
  • Assurance - Manage and participate in assurance, audit, and reviews activity.
  • Disposal - Manage the disposals and decommissioning of OME equipment.
  • Technical Discipline - Support OME specialism and wider Profession including coaching and mentoring and presenting to others.
  • Personal Development - Own your career progression and professionalisation. This includes engaging with your People Coach, maintaining membership and registration level, with a relevant Professional body, updating MyHR Career Development/Development Plan, conducting relevant learning and development in timely fashion, and keeping current with modern engineering technologies
