About the role

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Outdoor Education Specialist / Behaviour Mentor who can deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a highly rewarding role where you will use outdoor and experiential learning to support engagement, emotional regulation and personal development.

The role will involve facilitating a range of group-based outdoor activities, including:

  • Hiking and walking programmes
  • Rock climbing and adventurous activity sessions

  • Team-building and confidence-building outdoor interventions

As an Outdoor Education Specialist, you will play a key role in helping pupils re-engage with learning through practical, structured and therapeutic outdoor experiences.

This Outdoor Education Specialist role is ideal for someone who thrives outside of a traditional classroom environment and is passionate about making a meaningful impact on young people who have experienced barriers to education.

About the setting

This is a specialist SEMH educational environment supporting young people who may present with:

  • Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Trauma-related experiences
  • Difficulties with emotional regulation and engagement in education
  • Disrupted or inconsistent educational backgrounds

The school provides a nurturing, structured and supportive approach where relationships are at the heart of everything. Staff work collaboratively to create safe, consistent and engaging learning experiences.

  • Are confident delivering outdoor learning or physical education-based activities
  • Can build strong, positive relationships with young people
  • Are calm, resilient and adaptable in challenging situations
  • Have a passion for experiential and outdoor education

Qualifications in outdoor education, sports coaching, youth work or teaching are desirable but not essential if strong relevant experience can be demonstrated.
