Are you a qualified teacher with experience in Outdoor Education looking for an opportunity to make a real difference to young people with SEMH and SEND needs?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Rochdale that supports pupils aged 11-16 who may be at risk of exclusion or disengagement from education. We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Outdoor Education and PSHE Teacher to join the team on a full-time temporary to permanent basis.

This role will focus on delivering engaging outdoor learning and personal development opportunities that help students build confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills. The provision offers a practical and personalised curriculum with a strong emphasis on outdoor education, enrichment and wellbeing.

The Role

  • Deliver Outdoor Education and PSHE lessons to pupils aged 11-16
  • Lead and develop outdoor learning activities including canoeing, orienteering, team-building and adventure-based learning
  • Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs through positive relationships and trauma-informed practice
  • Organise educational visits and enrichment activities
  • Build links with local outdoor education providers, sports clubs and community organisations to widen opportunities for students
  • Promote personal development, wellbeing, life skills and positive engagement in education
  • Work closely with families, colleagues and external agencies to support pupil progress

The Provision

The setting supports pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, anxiety and other additional needs through small group teaching and personalised learning pathways. Outdoor education plays a key role in helping students develop confidence, self-esteem, resilience and aspirations for the future.

To be considered, you must:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)
  • Have experience delivering Outdoor Education programmes
  • Have experience working with pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Be confident leading off-site activities and educational visits
  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Ideally have existing links with local outdoor education providers or activity centres
  • Be passionate about helping vulnerable young people succeed
