Lead Lifting Engineering & Procurement on a Major Nuclear Programme


Are you a Mechanical Engineer, Package Manager, Project Engineer or Engineering Manager with strong nuclear experience and a background in lifting equipment, mechanical handling or engineered plant?
We are seeking an experienced Package Manager - Waste Engineering to join a major nuclear programme at Culham, supporting two important projects: BeHF Lifting Equipment and AGHS Future Services.
This is a varied engineering leadership role combining mechanical handling, lifting equipment, engineering delivery and procurement, with responsibility for coordinating technical activities and ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, practical and fit for purpose.



The Role


You will act as the Engineering Lead for the BeHF Lifting Equipment Project, leading the development of lifting solutions required to support future facility operations and decommissioning activities.
You will also lead engineering activities associated with the AGHS Future Services procurement, working closely with Procurement, Commercial and Legal teams to develop specifications, evaluate supplier proposals and support equipment selection.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the engineering development of lifting solutions.
  • Capturing stakeholder, operational and engineering requirements.
  • Developing technical specifications and scopes of work.
  • Managing multidisciplinary engineering design activities.
  • Coordinating interfaces between engineering, operations, safety case, Health Physics and facility stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with LOLER, PUWER, CDM, ALARP and UKAEA requirements.
  • Developing procurement and equipment acquisition strategies.
  • Assessing purchase, lease, rental and alternative delivery options.
  • Preparing technical procurement and tender documentation.
  • Conducting technical evaluations of supplier proposals.
  • Supporting supplier selection and contract award recommendations.
  • Managing engineering risks, actions, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Supporting installation, testing, commissioning, acceptance and handover.
  • Acting as an intelligent customer for externally delivered engineering work.


What We're Looking For


Nuclear experience is essential.
You will ideally have:

  • Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • CEng, IEng or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
  • Proven engineering experience within the nuclear sector.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects through design, procurement and implementation.
  • Experience as a Package Manager, Project Engineer, Responsible Engineer, Design Engineer or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with lifting equipment, mechanical handling systems or mechanical plant.
  • Knowledge and practical application of LOLER and PUWER.
  • Experience developing engineering specifications and scopes of work.
  • Experience supporting procurement and tendering activities.
  • Experience technically evaluating supplier proposals and deliverables.
  • Strong multidisciplinary engineering and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations, ALARP and engineering assurance.


Experience with cranes, lifting frames, bespoke lifting equipment, FAT/SAT, commissioning, specialist engineered plant or nuclear decommissioning would be particularly advantageous.
