Summary: Reporting to the Lead Packing Operative, the Packing Operative is responsible for ensuring customer orders made on our injection moulding machines are correctly packed, labelled and built according to the job sheets issued.

Working as a team, Packing Operatives are responsible for manning a group of machines to transfer products from the machines to the packing benches, so they can be weighed, counted and bagged before going onto each allocated pallet.

Packing Operatives keep the shop floor and their work areas safe and tidy by managing the flow of work being produced on each machine while ensuring plastic waste generated through the injection moulding process is removed, separated and granulated for future reprocessing.  

Hours of work – 3 Shifts Available:

  • 6 am - 2 pm
  • 2 pm - 10 pm
  • 10pm - 6 am

Monday to Friday with overtime available.

Key Duties:

Packing

  • Collects parts from moulding machines to weigh, pack and seal into polythene bags using weighing scales and heat-sealing machines according to operating procedures
  • Assembly of boxes for products that are packed in cartons
  • Ensures products are correctly labelled and stacked on pallets
  • Builds packaged product onto pallets in the designated “Work in Process” zones

Use Production Board

  • Uses the production board to understand job specifications and machine workload
  • Communicates with Lead Packing Operative and Tool Setters to identify job completion so the correct volume of product is made on each machine

Separation

  • Separates finished product from waste and ensures product is correctly packed
  • Frequently patrols their machines to ensure waste bins are emptied, and waste plastic is transferred to the granulator for recycling

Housekeeping

  • Ensures work areas are tidy and safe, free from excess materials and packaging
  • Sweeps, tidies and clears the shop floor and yard areas for the incoming shift
  • Ensures waste bins are emptied, and material separated for re-use in the granulator

Packing Quality

  • Follows company Operating Procedures in relation to how goods are bagged, labelled, shrink wrapped and stored on pallets
  • Escalates any product quality issues to the Lead Packing Operatives
