Contract: Agency assignment – ongoing and project-based work
We are recruiting an experienced and highly skilled Painter and Decorator to work within one of Central London’s leading five-star hotels.
This is a prestigious, guest-facing environment where the quality of every finish matters. The hotel maintains exceptionally high presentation standards and requires a professional decorator who takes genuine pride in their work and can consistently produce clean, precise and flawless results.
The hotel has an extensive programme of decorating work planned, ranging from complete guestroom and corridor refurbishments to detailed patch repairs, snagging and discreet touch-ups within occupied areas.
The WorkYou will undertake a varied programme of painting and decorating across:
- Luxury guestrooms and suites
- Corridors, staircases and lift lobbies
- Restaurants, bars and function rooms
- Reception and public areas
- Offices and staff areas
- Doors, frames, skirting boards and architraves
- Ceilings, walls, woodwork and metalwork
Projects will range from full-room decoration through to smaller reactive repairs where colours and finishes must be carefully matched to the existing décor.
Key Responsibilities- Preparing walls, ceilings, woodwork and other surfaces to an exceptional standard
- Filling cracks, dents, holes and surface imperfections
- Sanding, caulking, stain blocking, sealing and priming
- Applying emulsion, eggshell, satinwood, gloss and specialist coatings
- Producing sharp cutting-in lines and smooth, consistent finishes
- Painting doors, frames, skirting boards, architraves and decorative mouldings
- Completing full guestroom and corridor redecoration projects
- Carrying out patch painting, snagging and invisible touch-up repairs
- Matching existing colours, textures and finishes
- Removing and hanging wallpaper where required
- Protecting carpets, furniture, fixtures and hotel furnishings
- Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe throughout the assignment
- Removing dust sheets, tools and waste at the end of each working period
- Working discreetly around hotel guests, employees and operational departments
- Completing work efficiently without compromising quality
You must be an experienced Painter and Decorator who is accustomed to producing high-quality finishes within luxury hotels, high-end residential properties or similarly demanding commercial environments.
You will need:
- Substantial professional painting and decorating experience
- A proven ability to deliver excellent decorative finishes
- Strong preparation, filling, sanding and finishing skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience working within occupied or live environments
- The ability to complete both large decorating projects and delicate touch-up work
- A clean, tidy and methodical approach
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Excellent timekeeping and reliability
- A professional and respectful manner
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Recent and checkable decorating references
- The right to work in the UK
A recognised City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent painting and decorating qualification would be advantageous but is not essential for a highly experienced decorator.
Tools, Clothing and PPEApplicants must provide their own:
- Safety boots
- Clean white decorating overalls
- Professional-quality brushes
- Rollers, frames and extension poles
- Filling and preparation tools
- Dust sheets and protective coverings
- General hand tools required to complete the work
The hotel will supply the paint and other specified decorating materials.
Specialist Skills That Would Be AdvantageousExperience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Hanging luxury wallpaper and specialist wallcoverings
- Installing wide-width, vinyl or fabric-backed wallcoverings
- Airless or HVLP spray finishing
- Wood staining, oiling, varnishing and lacquering
- French polishing and restoration of decorative timber finishes
- Venetian or polished plaster
- Marbling, wood graining and other decorative paint effects
- Metallic, pearlescent and textured feature finishes
- Gilding or gold-leaf application
- Painting detailed cornices, mouldings and period features
- Colour matching, tinting and blending invisible repairs
- Applying fire-retardant or specialist protective coatings
These specialist skills are desirable rather than essential. The most important requirement is the ability to produce consistently outstanding decorating work.
