Hours

Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm (40 hours per week)
Overtime may be available depending on project requirements.

Job Purpose

To carry out high-quality painting and decorating works within occupied and unoccupied university accommodation during the annual summer refurbishment programme. The role requires working efficiently to meet strict project deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship, health and safety, and customer care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for decoration, including filling, sanding, cleaning and priming.

  • Apply paint, varnish and other finishes to walls, ceilings, woodwork and metal surfaces.

  • Carry out internal redecoration of student bedrooms, kitchens, communal areas, corridors and associated facilities.

  • Repair minor defects in walls, ceilings and woodwork prior to decoration.

  • Protect floors, furniture and fixtures using appropriate coverings.

  • Ensure all work areas are left clean, tidy and safe at the end of each shift.

  • Work from schedules and room lists to meet programme deadlines.

  • Identify and report defects or maintenance issues outside the scope of decorating works.

  • Comply with all site health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.

  • Work effectively as part of a team while also being capable of working independently.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with university staff, students and other contractors.

Essential Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • Proven experience as a Painter & Decorator.

  • A valid CSCS Card.

  • Their own vehicle with the ability to travel to sites across the North West.

  • Their own professional decorating tools suitable for carrying out all aspects of internal painting and decorating works.

  • Good knowledge of surface preparation and decorating techniques.

  • Ability to produce a high-quality finish within agreed timescales.

  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements on construction and refurbishment sites.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills.

  • The right to work in the UK.
