Parks Operative - Belfast City Council

£14.35 per hour | Temporary 12-week contract | 37 hours per week

Location: Antrim Road, Belfast (BT15)

• Full, current C1+E driving licence (essential)

Hatched Recruitment Group are currently recruiting on behalf of Belfast City Council for a Parks Operative to join the Open Spaces and Streetscene team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical outdoor, gardening, horticultural, or grounds maintenance experience to contribute to keeping Belfast's parks and public spaces safe, clean, and well maintained.

The Role

As a Parks Operative, you will support the maintenance and upkeep of parks, open spaces, and public areas across Belfast. You will carry out a range of outdoor duties including grounds maintenance, horticultural work, operating equipment, and ensuring facilities are maintained to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out general grounds maintenance duties including grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, edging, sweeping, and litter removal
• Maintain parks, gardens, play areas, and public spaces to a high standard
• Operate horticultural tools, machinery, and light plant equipment safely
• Drive and operate allocated vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment
• Assist with planting, turf care, seasonal displays, and general horticultural activities
• Carry out inspections of parks facilities, playgrounds, and public areas
• Report any hazards, defects, vandalism, or safety concerns
• Provide excellent customer service when engaging with members of the public
• Work effectively as part of a team while also using your own initiative

Essential Requirements:

• Full, current C1+E driving licence (essential)
• Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, horticulture, landscaping, or similar outdoor work
• Experience using powered hand tools and equipment safely
• Experience working in a public-facing environment
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong awareness of health and safety procedures

Desirable:

• Driver Qualification Card (CPC)
• Experience operating larger vehicles, trailers, mowers, or horticultural machinery
• Knowledge of plants, turf care, and general horticultural techniques
