Part-Time Finance Manager / Bookkeeper (Xero) — 2.5 days/week
Solid Floor · Direct employer
Description
Solid Floor is a specialist importer of hardwood flooring, working with architects, interior designers, developers and main contractors from our two London showrooms. We turn over c.£2m a year and are a lean team of five full-time staff — this role is the sole owner of our finance function.
This role is based at our Spitalfields, E1 showroom, with remote working also available (typically a mix of the two).
We're recruiting a Part-Time Finance Manager/Bookkeeper (2.5 days/week) to take over from our long-serving finance lead, who is retiring after many years. This is a genuine opportunity to build the finance function the way you think it should work — we want someone who treats AI and automation as core to how they operate, not a bolt-on, and who'll actively modernise processes that have historically been run manually.
What you'll be doing
- Day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, including accounts payable/receivable and bank reconciliation
- Weekly supplier payments and weekly CIS payments to our long-standing subcontractor installation team
- Monthly payroll (SAGE), and keeping our Sage HR system up to date for holiday/sickness
- Weekly cash flow forecasting and managing FX exposure on our Euro-denominated supplier invoices
- Monthly and quarterly sales reporting and management accounts
- Managing VAT, PAYE and liaison with our external auditors, including year-end support
- Insurance, health & safety administration (PAT testing, fire safety servicing) and utilities contracts
- Identifying and implementing automation across bookkeeping, reporting and payment processes
What we're looking for
- Solid, proven bookkeeping/finance experience — payroll, AP/AR, reconciliations, management accounts
- Strong hands-on Xero experience
- Comfortable with, or a fast learner of, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
- Genuine, demonstrable enthusiasm for using AI tools and automation in finance work
- Confident communicator — you'll deal directly with our Directors, auditors, suppliers, subcontractors and insurance broker
- Highly organised and self-sufficient — this is a sole-charge role with no back-up team
- Right to work in the UK
No specific qualification is required — we care more about demonstrable experience and your appetite for modernising how things are done. AAT/ACCA/CIMA (qualified or part-qualified) is a plus but not essential.
