💷 Actual salary: Approximately £25,600–£41,600 depending on contracted hours

🏭 The role
An established specialist manufacturer is looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to take responsibility for health and safety across its manufacturing operation.
This is a practical role requiring regular involvement on the production floor, alongside responsibility for policies, systems, reporting, HACCP compliance and audit preparation.
The successful candidate will report directly to the company directors and may work from home for up to 50% of their contracted hours, subject to operational requirements.
📋 Duties and responsibilities
- ✅ Maintain and continually improve existing health and safety policies, procedures and management systems.
- ✅ Provide competent health and safety advice to directors, managers and employees.
- ✅ Conduct workplace inspections across production, warehouse and office environments.
- ✅ Complete and review risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements.
- ✅ Ensure compliance with COSHH, PUWER, DSEAR, RIDDOR, manual handling and fire safety requirements.
- ✅ Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and implement corrective actions.
- ✅ Maintain statutory inspection, training and compliance records.
- ✅ Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and health and safety training.
- ✅ Manage contractor and visitor safety requirements.
- ✅ Maintain and improve HACCP-based systems.
- ✅ Coordinate preparations for the annual GLOBALG.A.P. external audit.
- ✅ Manage audit findings and corrective actions through to completion.
- ✅ Monitor safety performance and provide reports and recommendations to the directors.
- ✅ Promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the business.
🎯 Skills and experience required
- 🎓 NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- 🏭 Previous health and safety experience within manufacturing, production or a similar operational environment.
- ⚖️ Strong knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation.
- 🔍 Experience conducting risk assessments, inspections and incident investigations.
- 📚 Experience maintaining health and safety policies and management systems.
- 🥫 Working knowledge of HACCP principles.
- 📋 Experience preparing for external audits and managing corrective actions.
- 🗣️ Confident communication skills with the ability to influence at every level.
- 💻 Ability to combine practical site oversight with independent administrative work.
➕ Desirable
- 🍽️ Experience within food, animal feed, FMCG or process manufacturing.
- 🎓 HACCP Level 3 or Level 4 qualification.
- 🥇 Food Safety Level 3 or Level 4 qualification.
- 📑 GLOBALG.A.P., BRCGS, SALSA, ISO 22000 or ISO 45001 experience.
- 🔎 Internal or lead auditor qualification.
- 🦺 IOSH membership.
The position can be structured around 20–30 hours per week, with the exact days and working pattern agreed with the successful candidate.
