Pastoral & Behaviour Specialist Specification

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Pastoral & Behaviour Specialist to join a supportive secondary school in Dudley from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The successful applicant will work closely with the pastoral team, teaching staff and senior leaders to promote positive behaviour, provide targeted interventions, and support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with vulnerable young people who can build strong relationships while maintaining high expectations.

Essential Requirements:

• Previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour support, mentoring, youth work or school-based role
• Experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs is desirable
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Calm, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour
• Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Safeguarding Level 1 trained (support available if required)
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Key responsibilities:

• Provide pastoral and behavioural support to students across KS3 and KS4
• Build positive relationships with students to improve engagement, attendance and behaviour
• Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions focused on behaviour, emotional wellbeing and personal development
• Support students who require time out from lessons and facilitate successful reintegration into the classroom
• Work alongside teaching staff to implement behaviour support strategies and individual behaviour plans
• Monitor, record and report on student behaviour, attendance and progress using school systems
• Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to promote positive outcomes for students
• Promote high expectations, safeguarding and positive conduct throughout the school
• Support with break, lunchtime and transition duties where required
• Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students
