Do you have the confidence, resilience and patience to support young people when things feel difficult?

As a Pastoral Behaviour Mentor, you'll work with pupils who may have experienced challenges in mainstream education, helping them to understand their emotions, develop emotional regulation, manage behaviour and build the confidence to succeed.

This is a role where your approach really matters.

You'll become a consistent and trusted adult for young people who may find it difficult to manage their emotions, communicate how they are feeling or respond positively when situations become challenging.

Through strong relationships, clear boundaries, emotional regulation strategies and positive encouragement, you'll help pupils develop the skills they need to manage themselves, engage with education and make positive choices.

You'll provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils develop the emotional and behavioural skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

You'll support young people to:

• Develop emotional regulation and self-awareness
• Recognise and communicate their emotions
• Understand their triggers and identify strategies that help them regulate
• Manage frustration, anxiety and challenging situations
• Develop positive behaviour and attitudes towards learning
• Build confidence, resilience and self-belief
• Develop positive relationships with staff and peers
• Re-engage with education
• Make positive choices and take increasing responsibility for their behaviour
• Overcome barriers to learning and recognise their progress

You'll work closely with teachers, SEN staff and the wider pastoral team to provide a consistent approach, clear expectations and positive reinforcement.

You don't necessarily need previous school experience.

We're interested in people who understand that behaviour is communication and who can remain calm, consistent and confident when supporting young people through challenging moments.

If you've supported young people to manage emotions, develop confidence, build relationships or overcome difficult situations, your experience could be incredibly valuable in this setting.

• Stay calm and confident when situations become challenging
• Support young people with emotional regulation and SEMH needs
• Build trusting and professional relationships
• Set clear, consistent boundaries
• Understand the importance of co-regulation and positive role modelling
• Recognise triggers and respond appropriately
• Encourage young people to develop their own emotional regulation strategies
• Challenge behaviour positively while maintaining strong relationships
• Celebrate progress, however small
• Work confidently as part of a wider pastoral and education team

Because you won't simply be managing behaviour.

You'll be helping young people understand themselves, regulate their emotions and believe that they can succeed.

You'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, develop your experience within SEND and SEMH education and see the impact of your support first-hand.
