We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator / Finance Administrator to join our team on a part-time basis. This is a predominantly payroll-focused position, with additional finance administration duties. The successful candidate will be confident running payroll accurately and independently within a busy practice environment.

Role details

  • Hours: 20 hours per week
  • Working pattern: Five days per week, four hours per day
  • Salary: £26,000–£28,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience (paid pro rata)

Key responsibilities

  • Process client payrolls accurately and on time across weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay cycles
  • Calculate statutory payments, deductions, pensions, holiday pay and other payroll adjustments
  • Prepare and submit Real Time Information returns to HMRC
  • Manage starters, leavers, payroll changes and year-end processes
  • Respond professionally to payroll queries from clients and employees
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure deadlines are met
  • Support routine finance administration, including bookkeeping, reconciliations and maintaining financial records

About you

  • Previous experience running payroll within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau is essential
  • Sound knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and workplace pensions
  • Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage recurring deadlines
  • Confident communicating with clients and handling confidential information
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a supportive team

Desirable experience

  • Experience using Xero for bookkeeping or finance administration
  • Knowledge of BrightPay payroll software and familiarity with pension software used in a practice environment
