Payroll Clerk in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire

Portfolio Payroll is working alongside a leading global logistics operator who are seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk to manage end-to-end processing on an initial 9-month fixed-term contract. This fully office-based role in Middlesbrough offers complexity, autonomy, and the chance to support a major international transport fleet.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing multi-region portfolios - Oversee end-to-end payroll delivery for a total headcount of approximately 250 delivery drivers.
• End-to-end payroll oversight - Manage 60 monthly UK payrolls alongside 150 weekly and 20-30 monthly US payrolls.
• System ownership - Utilise ADP, Sage, and Time & Attendance (T&A) software to log hours, manage variances, and ensure smooth delivery.
• Quality assurance - Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance, and service across all varied pay frequencies.
• Stakeholder collaboration - Work closely with the Payroll Manager and two dedicated administrators to resolve queries and support the team.

Ideal Experience

• Proven payroll background - Minimum of 2 years of practical, hands-on payroll experience.
• High-volume processing - Comfortable delivering end-to-end payroll across complex weekly and monthly international schedules.
• ADP & Sage expertise - Confident navigating, processing, and delivering payroll through ADP and Sage systems.
• BAU capabilities - Skilled in maintaining smooth day-to-day operations while managing competing driver timelines.
• Strong communication & organisation - Able to work efficiently within a head office team environment with exceptional numerical accuracy.

Contract Details

• 9-month fixed-term contract / Temporary contract (Maternity Cover)
• Salary of £28,000 - £30,000 FTE (pro-rata)
• Fully office-based in Middlesbrough
• Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm
• Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager
