Timeplan Education are currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a welcoming and busy educational setting in London, starting in September 2026.
This is a great opportunity for someone with previous payroll experience within the education sector who is looking for a varied role within a supportive school environment. Experience working within SEN is not essential, although experience or an understanding of the education sector would be highly desirable.
The Role
As Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day payroll process and ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time. You will work closely with the school's senior leadership, HR and business management teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and processing monthly payroll accurately and on time
- Calculating salaries, overtime, bonuses, deductions and other payments
- Maintaining accurate employee records and payroll information
- Checking overtime, deductions and salary changes
- Preparing and submitting payroll reports to the external payroll provider
- Reviewing pre-pay reports and checking payroll information thoroughly
- Responding to staff payroll queries and resolving discrepancies
- Managing pension and other employee benefit deductions
- Supporting internal and external payroll audits
- Assisting with payroll system updates and troubleshooting
- Maintaining strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee information
- Providing occasional reception cover when required
- Supporting the wider administrative needs of the school when necessary
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Payroll Officer/Payroll Administrator
- Experience processing payroll within an education or school setting
- Strong attention to detail and excellent numerical skills
- Good knowledge of payroll processes, deductions and compliance
- Experience using payroll software and systems
- The ability to manage confidential information professionally
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- The confidence to deal with staff queries and resolve payroll issues
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider school team
SEN experience is not required, but previous experience working within education is highly desirable.
Working Hours
Monday - Thursday: 8:30am - 4:00pm
Friday: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Start date: September 2026
Safeguarding
The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and relevant safeguarding checks prior to commencing the role.
