Payroll & Pensions Specialist
Location: Remote (with occasional travel to London)
Salary: £35,000Â
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full-time
Reports to: COO & Sales Director
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who wants to progress beyond traditional payroll processing and broaden their experience within a growing technology-led business.
You’ll initially manage a portfolio of around 50–60 client payrolls per month, varying in size and complexity, with this expected to grow over time. Alongside payroll delivery, you’ll become a key point of contact for clients and partners, support workplace pension services and contribute to improving processes and systems.
This role would suit someone ambitious, confident and eager to take ownership within a forward-thinking payroll environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and process a portfolio of client payrolls from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Handle multiple payrolls with varying complexity while meeting strict deadlines.
- Manage statutory payments, HMRC requirements, payroll legislation and year-end processes.
- Resolve payroll queries and act as a trusted contact for clients and partners.
- Support workplace pension administration including enrolments, opt-ins, opt-outs, submissions and provider communications.
- Assist with salary exchange arrangements and pension compliance requirements.
- Support new client onboarding, implementation meetings and payroll setup.
- Build relationships with employers, accountants, advisers and payroll partners.
- Support product improvements, testing, process documentation and operational projects.
- Get involved in client demonstrations and wider commercial opportunities as the business grows.
What They're Looking For
- Strong experience processing UK payroll independently.
- Previous experience within a payroll bureau, outsourced payroll provider or technology-led payroll environment.
- Experience managing multiple client payrolls and competing priorities.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments and pensions.
- Excellent attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Confident communicator who enjoys building relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Someone who is ambitious, self-motivated and keen to take ownership within a growing business.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
Desirable Experience
- Workplace pension administration experience.
- Salary exchange knowledge.
- CIPP qualification or working towards one.
- Experience with Employment Hero, KeyPay or Brain Payroll.
- Experience working with accountants, advisers or payroll partners.
- Exposure to SaaS, fintech or technology businesses.
