Payroll Senior

Location: Ipswich
Working Pattern: Part-time or Full-time (3–5 days per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Senior to join a well-established and highly respected professional services organisation. This role is ideal for a payroll professional looking to take ownership of their own client portfolio while playing a key role in supporting and developing colleagues within a collaborative team environment.

You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality payroll service to a diverse client portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance and excellent client care at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a portfolio of clients.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, statutory requirements and auto-enrolment regulations.
  • Process payrolls accurately and efficiently through to completion.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, HMRC and third-party providers.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and service delivery.
  • Review and peer-check payrolls completed by other team members.
  • Support, mentor and coach junior colleagues.
  • Provide guidance on payroll legislation, technical queries and system-related issues.
  • Deliver training sessions and share knowledge across the wider team.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
  • Produce ad hoc payroll, financial and operational reports as required.
  • Support the Payroll Manager with projects and team initiatives.
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • A minimum of two years' payroll experience.
  • Strong end-to-end payroll processing experience, including pensions, benefits and statutory payments.
  • The ability to manually calculate payroll.
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll legislation and auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate work.
  • Outstanding organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A customer-focused approach with experience handling client queries by phone and email.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or training colleagues.
  • The ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
