Day Rate: £400 to £500 per day
Hybrid: Office presence ideally
Location: South London
Sellick Partnership are working with a public sector organisation seeking an experienced Pensions Manager to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a small team while overseeing the financial management of a large Local Government Pension Scheme.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering key Pension Fund finance activities, maintaining robust financial controls, managing stakeholder relationships and driving continuous improvement across the service.
The responsibilities of the Pensions Manager will be:
- Lead and support a specialist finance team responsible for the Pension Fund's financial operations.
- Oversee the preparation of the Pension Fund's annual accounts and supporting financial reporting.
- Monitor budgets, cashflow and financial controls to ensure effective financial management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with auditors, actuaries, investment managers, employers and governance boards.
- Drive continuous improvement through reviewing financial processes and implementing digital solutions where appropriate.
- Provide financial advice and insight to support informed decision-making across the service.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards and Local Government Pension Scheme requirements.
- Support the delivery of projects and service improvements that enhance operational performance and customer experience.
- Coach, develop and manage team members, promoting a high-performing and collaborative culture.
The ideal candidate for the Pensions Manager role will have:
- A recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIPFA.
- Previous experience working within public sector finance, ideally with Local Government Pension Scheme knowledge.
- Strong understanding of public sector accounting principles and financial governance.
- Experience producing statutory accounts and complex financial reports.
- Proven people management experience with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain financial matters to non-financial audiences.
- Experience driving process improvements and delivering operational efficiencies.
- Advanced IT and financial systems knowledge, with strong Excel and data analysis skills.
