People Manager

We are supporting our client in the financial services industry to recruit for a People Manager opportunity – you will be reporting to the Managing Director. The main focus of the People Manager role is to manage and support employees, ensuring they are engaged, productive, and aligned with the company's goals. They will play a key role in fostering a positive work environment while driving employee development and career progression.

Main Duties and Responsibilities for People Manager

Strategy

● Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.

● Advise the Board and Senior Managers on organisational design, workforce planning, culture and talent.

● Lead organisational change initiatives and transformation programmes.

● Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of human capital.

Talen Acquisition and Workforce Planning

● Develop recruitment strategies to attract and retain high calibre talent.

● Manage the recruitment and selection process to attract and retain top talent including but not limited to vetting and fitness to practice (regulatory references, FIT, right to work, fraud checks).

● Ensure effective succession planning for key roles.

● Develop workforce plans aligned with future business requirements.

Reward and Performance

● Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.

● Maintain pay plan and benefits program.

● Oversee and make recommendations on compensation and benefits programmes.

● Support the Board with salary reviews and annual bonus review process, including benchmarking against market trends.

● Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs.

● Report to the Board and Senior Managers on workforce HR metrics.

Employee Relations

● Ensure compliance with employment and related legislation, internal policies and procedures and regulatory requirements, throughout human resources management.

● Manage grievances and disciplinary processes.

● Handle workplace conflict.

● Support managers with Employee Relation cases.

● Supporting colleagues and the wider department to ensure department aims are achieved

Monitoring adhere to the FCA Conduct Rules and supporting the Board with regulatory report.

HR Operations

● Manage the day-to-day operations of the HR office, ensuring efficient workflow and communication.

● Oversee HR systems, data governance and reporting.

● Drive process improvement and digital transformation within HR.

● Manage supplier relationships within HR and ensure that internal procedures related to due diligence, data protection and contractual requirements are adhered to.

● Maintain HR records in accordance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.

● Share ideas and feedback with management where through your day-to-day experience with employees, you identify that improvements can be made and how to implement them.

Culture, diversity and inclusion

● Develop, implement, and monitor conduct, diversity and inclusion including owning related policies and procedures and learning and development.

● Identify key conduct or diversity issues and propose solutions to promote equality and fairness.

● Stay updated on laws and regulations related to diversity and inclusion.

Regulatory and Risk Management

● Ensure HR policies are kept up to date and comply with employment law and applicable FCA rules and guidance.

● Support governance and risk management frameworks relating to people practices.

● Work closely with the Board and Risk and Compliance teams on conduct, culture and regulatory requirements (including but not limited to COCON and FIT).

Leadership

● Lead, coach and develop the HR team.

● Build strong relationships across all business function including but not limited to with the Board and Senior managers.

Qualifications

HR qualification at managerial level, including but not limited to from one of the following:

● CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) Level 5 or above or

● SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management)

● HRCI (Human Resource Certification Institute) – professional or above.

● Human Resource’s degree or equivalent.

Experience

● Proven working experience as a People Manager (ideally in financial services or another regulated sector).

● Demonstrated success in developing and driving forward people and leadership strategies.

● Experience in advising Board and senior management.

● Experience in leadership of organisational change and transformation.

● Experience and strong knowledge of employee relations and employment law

● Knowledge of HR systems and databases

● Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics.
