Personal Assistant to the Managing Director (Maternity Cover)

Location: Head Office – Worksop, Nottinghamshire, UK
Reports To: The Managing Director and Head of Administration
Contract Type: Fixed-term Contract (Maternity Cover) – Full time, Temporary*
Start Date: No later than December for handover
Salary: £30k + (depending on experience)

Wright Engineering is looking for a temporary PA to provide high-level executive, administrative, analytical and project support to the Managing Director, ensuring continuity and effectiveness during the maternity leave period.

The role acts as a trusted point of support to the MD, taking ownership of delegated actions, coordinating with stakeholders across the Wright Group of Companies, maintaining accurate and timely information flow, and ensuring key tasks and projects are progressed proactively and efficiently.

Working with a high degree of autonomy and minimal day-to-day direction, the postholder will manage priorities, follow up actions, support cross-department coordination and maintain high standards of administration. The role will ensure that the MD has the information, organisation and practical support required to make effective decisions and maintain momentum across the Group.

*This role is a temporary maternity-cover position, however subject to business requirements and the returning employee’s arrangements, we anticipate a potential opportunity to extend employment beyond the maternity-cover period in a job-share or similar administrative capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Diary Management & Travel Coordination

  • Manage diary commitments, ensuring efficient prioritisation.
  • Coordinate UK and international travel arrangements.
  • Organise meetings, appointments and logistics for both operational and strategic requirements.
  • Attend meetings as required to record action points.
  • Track and follow up actions with minimal MD guidance.
  • Provide clear summaries for MD review.

Strategic & Operational Task Management

  • Take actions directly from the MD and work with relevant stakeholders across the Group to deliver outcomes.
  • Maintain a structured and prioritised MD to‑do list.
  • Progress actions independently and provide updates during regular MD check‑ins.

Financial Document Review & Analysis

Review and summarise financial reports, budgets, management accounts, WIP data and job costing information.

Identify risks, variances and opportunities.

Ensure accuracy of data supplied by departments.

KPI Development & Oversight

  • Support business leaders in setting, refining and tracking KPIs.
  • Ensure KPI packs are submitted on time and accurately.
  • Produce commentary and MD‑ready summaries.

Cross‑Group Stakeholder Liaison

  • Act as a primary coordination point across all group businesses.
  • Chase actions, gather updates and remove bottlenecks.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships to ensure alignment.

Strategic Projects & Growth Initiatives
Support:

  • New business launches.
  • Mergers, acquisitions and onboarding processes.
  • Group performance improvement programmes.
  • Ongoing social value initiatives at project and company level.

Construction Administration Oversight

Support the Head of Administration in managing construction administration.

Enhance admin systems, templates and processes.

Business Administration Leadership

Work closely with the Head of Administration to ensure all administrative functions meet required standards.

Assist in coordinating workload, process improvements and cross‑department admin requirements.

Executive Expenses & Financial Handling

  • Manage expenses for the MD and Chairman, including: Travel and accommodationRepairs and R&RHospitality and client‑related expenditure
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance and timely submissions.

Internal Communication & Document Control:

  • Draft communications and internal updates as required.
  • Manage filing systems for both digital and hard‑copy documents.
  • Ensure accurate, accessible and secure document management.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in administration or PA‑level duties.
  • Strong financial understanding and confidence handling reports and job costing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • High discretion, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously.
