Personal Tax Accountant – Take the Next Step in Your Tax Career

Wimborne, Dorset | £26,000–£30,000 DOE
Full-time | Permanent | Monday–Friday

You’ve gained experience in personal tax. Now you’re ready for more variety, more responsibility and the opportunity to develop.

We’re recruiting for an established and growing accountancy practice in Wimborne looking for a Personal Tax Accountant to join its busy and supportive tax team.

You’ll manage work across a varied client portfolio, from straightforward Self Assessment through to more interesting tax matters involving landlords, high-net-worth individuals, foreign income, residency and Capital Gains Tax.

This is an excellent opportunity if you already have some personal tax experience within practice and want a role where you can continue learning, build stronger client relationships and progress professionally.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your main focus will be preparing accurate and timely Self Assessment Tax Returns, while gradually becoming a trusted point of contact for your clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing personal tax returns for a varied portfolio including individuals, sole traders, landlords and high-net-worth clients.
  • Reviewing client information and ensuring returns are accurate and compliant.
  • Supporting clients with queries relating to their personal tax affairs.
  • Assisting with more complex areas including buy-to-let property, foreign income, residency and Capital Gains Tax.
  • Liaising directly with HMRC regarding enquiries and client matters.
  • Building strong, professional relationships with clients.
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional advice and support.
  • Managing deadlines effectively during busy tax periods.
  • Maintaining accurate client records and documentation.

As your experience develops, you’ll have the opportunity to become increasingly involved in tax advisory work, giving you exposure beyond pure compliance.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally have:

  • At least 1–2 years’ experience within an accountancy practice.
  • Previous exposure to personal tax and Self Assessment Tax Returns.
  • A good working knowledge of UK personal tax compliance.
  • Experience using tax/accountancy software and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Confidence communicating with clients.
  • A proactive approach and genuine interest in developing your tax career.

An ATT qualification or current ATT studies would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential.

More important is having the right foundation in personal tax and the motivation to continue developing.

Progression & Study Support

If you’re looking to build a long-term career in tax, you’ll be supported with ongoing professional development and a generous study package, including opportunities to work towards qualifications such as ATT and CTA.

There is genuine scope to broaden your technical knowledge, take on more advisory work and progress as your experience grows.

Benefits

Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll receive a range of benefits including:

  • Professional study support and CPD.
  • Career progression opportunities.
  • Flexible working options.
  • Additional leave.
  • On-site parking.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Company events.
  • Employee discounts.
  • Financial planning services.
  • Health and wellbeing support.
  • Referral programme.
  • Free and discounted food.
  • Sick pay.

If you have experience preparing personal tax returns within an accountancy practice and you’re ready for your next step, we’d love to hear from you.
