FBR Construction Recruitment
Plumber / Pipefitter – Commercial & Mechanical Services
Location: Portsmouth / Southampton / South Coast
Salary: TBC, depending on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week
Overtime: Available at enhanced rates
Start: Immediate start available for the right person
About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced Commercial Plumber / Pipefitter to join their team.
This is a varied, hands-on role working across commercial mechanical projects throughout the South Coast, with a particular focus on hospitals, healthcare facilities, schools and other commercial environments.
This is not a static site role. The work is varied, and the successful candidate will need to be comfortable moving between different projects, working across different environments and taking ownership of their work.
One week you could be installing commercial pipework on a larger project, another day fitting sanitaryware or carrying out alterations, and another day attending a different site to assist with mechanical services.
The work
Our client's mechanical projects typically range from around £200k to £800k, with a significant amount of their work taking place within hospitals and healthcare environments, including projects associated with new MRI, CT and other specialist scanner installations.
Typical work includes:
- Commercial plumbing and pipework
- Copper pipework up to approximately 54mm
- Black iron pipework
- Commercial heating systems
- Chilled water systems
- Domestic water services
- Sanitaryware and alterations
- Installation, modification and maintenance of existing systems
- Working alongside other mechanical and electrical trades
- Smaller reactive and project-based works
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is experienced, practical and dependable, with the ability to work independently and represent the company professionally.
The successful candidate should be comfortable:
- Working across multiple sites and projects
- Meeting and communicating with clients
- Liaising with project managers and other trades
- Taking responsibility for their own work
- Working from drawings and project requirements
- Solving problems on site without needing constant supervision
- Adapting to different types of work and environments
- Maintaining a high standard of workmanship
- Travelling around the South Coast when required
Time-served experience and the right attitude are more important initially than having every qualification on paper.
Candidates will ultimately need to hold the appropriate cards, qualifications and certifications for the work they are carrying out, but we're happy to discuss individual experience and circumstances.
The type of person we're looking for
Our client is a relatively small, friendly company, and finding the right fit for the business is important.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work and is happy to get involved wherever required.
If you prefer turning up to the same site every day and doing the same type of pipefitting for months on end, this probably won't be the right role for you.
We're looking for someone who is flexible, professional and takes ownership — someone who can attend a site, deal confidently with the client, communicate effectively with the project team and get the job done properly.
