Morris & Spottiswood Group

Morris & Spottiswood Group is one of the UK’s leading providers of fit‑out, refurbishment, M&E, facilities management and construction services. Proudly family‑owned, we maintain high standards in health, safety, quality and environmental performance across all projects.

Guided by our values of Aim High, Act Responsibly and Value People, we operate a collaborative, delivery‑focused culture where people are supported to perform at their best.

The Role

We are recruiting an experienced Planner to support the continued growth, and delivery demands of our Fitout Scotland Division, based from our Glasgow operations with a strong on‑site presence across projects.

Planning is central to the successful delivery of our fit‑out and refurbishment projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring robust, achievable programmes are developed, progress is accurately monitored, and project risks, interfaces and change are clearly understood and managed. The Planner will work closely with operational, commercial and site teams to support safe, high‑quality, and predictable delivery across live project environments.

To strengthen our front‑end and delivery capability, we are appointing a dedicated Planner with strong fit‑out and construction sector experience. This role requires a hands‑on, delivery‑focused approach, with visibility on site for a minimum of three days per week, and close collaboration with project teams throughout the lifecycle of works.

About You

You will be an experienced Planner with a minimum of 5 years’ industry experience in a Planning and/or operational management role, with demonstrable involvement in the delivery of fast‑track fit‑out projects, and wider construction or housing schemes. Prior experience working across both public and private sector contracts would be advantageous.

You will bring a structured, methodical approach to planning, coupled with strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with site teams, subcontractors and senior stakeholders. Experience working within live, occupied environments and managing programmes under time‑critical conditions is essential.

Proficiency in Asta Powerproject (v13) is essential, with Primavera P6 experience highly desirable, enabling the production of accurate, logic‑linked programmes, resource schedules and reporting outputs.

Key Responsibilities

As Planner, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and controlling project programmes across live works, ensuring plans remain aligned with delivery reality.

This will include:

  • Developing and maintaining fully logic‑linked construction programmes from tender through to completion
  • Breaking down project scope into clear tasks, sequences and milestones aligned to methodology
  • Working closely with project managers, site teams, commercial teams and subcontractors to gather accurate planning information
  • Monitoring site progress and updating programmes to accurately reflect actual performance
  • Producing short‑term look‑ahead programmes (1‑week, 2‑week and 4‑week) to support effective site delivery
  • Identifying programme risk, delay, opportunity and constraint, and proposing mitigation strategies
  • Analysing the critical path, assessing the impact of change, variation or disruption
  • Preparing clear planning reports for internal management and external stakeholders
  • Supporting resource and cost planning by aligning labour, plant and materials with programme requirements
  • Attending and contributing to project and progress meetings, providing clear planning insight to support decision‑making
  • Ensuring compliance with company planning standards, governance procedures and reporting requirements

Skills & Experience Required

You will be a disciplined, results‑driven Planner with a proven ability to support the successful delivery of profitable, high‑quality contracts.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A strong track record in project planning, with evidence of tender programmes aligned to actual delivery performance
  • Excellent planning and programming expertise using Asta Powerproject
  • Sound understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and interfaces, particularly within fit‑out environments
  • Experience working on projects typically ranging from £350k to £5m+
  • Good working knowledge of tender and contract documentation, procurement routes and specifications
  • Familiarity with common forms of contract, including JCT and NEC3/NEC4 (D&B and PPC 2000 advantageous)
  • A commercially aware mindset, recognising programme risk and its link to cost and commercial exposure
  • Strong understanding of risk and opportunity management, particularly in relation to planning and programme control
  • A consistently high level of Health & Safety awareness

Key Requirements (Non‑Negotiable)

  • Scotland‑based, with Glasgow as primary base
  • Minimum 3 days per week on site
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Fully IT‑literate, including Asta Powerproject and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (intermediate level)
  • Willingness to travel as required by the role
