An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planner to join a growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major projects across the water, wastewater, highways, rail, environmental, power, and specialist engineering sectors.

Operating on long-term framework agreements and major capital delivery programmes, the business delivers complex infrastructure projects including water treatment works, pipelines, reinforced concrete structures, tunnelling, pumping stations, drainage, and major civil engineering schemes. With a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to strengthen their planning function with an experienced Planner who has strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project (MSP).

As Planner, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of projects from tender stage through to completion. Working closely with operational, commercial, engineering, and project management teams, you will develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project programmes, providing accurate reporting and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project (MSP).
• Produce tender, baseline, and construction programmes for a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Monitor project progress against programme and identify risks, delays, and opportunities.
• Carry out critical path analysis and recommend mitigation measures where necessary.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, Commercial Teams, and Engineers to ensure programmes accurately reflect project delivery.
• Produce short-term look-ahead programmes and regular progress reports for senior management and clients.
• Support resource planning, procurement activities, and construction sequencing.
• Assist with change management, programme revisions, and compensation event assessments under NEC contracts.
• Attend project meetings and present programme updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Review subcontractor programmes and integrate them into the master programme.
• Support the pre-construction team with tender planning, methodology development, and bid submissions.
• Drive continuous improvement in planning processes and programme controls.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Planner or Senior Planner within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or water sectors.
• Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project (MSP).
• Experience producing and maintaining detailed, logic-linked construction programmes.
• Excellent understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery methodologies.
• Experience working under NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
• Ability to undertake critical path analysis and programme reporting.
• Understanding of project controls, resource planning, and risk management.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Primavera P6 certification or demonstrable practical experience (desirable).
• Experience using Microsoft Project (MSP) in a project planning environment.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Membership of the Association for Project Management (APM) or equivalent (desirable).
