Senior Planner - Major Construction Project - Cardiff

Are you an experienced Construction Planner looking to play a pivotal role on a landmark construction project in South Wales?

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Planner to lead the planning function on an exciting £70 million construction project based in Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading main contractor delivering a prestigious scheme from the earliest stages through to completion.

The Role

As the Senior Planner, you will take ownership of the planning strategy for a major construction development, working closely with the Project Director, Commercial Team, Site Management and key stakeholders.

Initially, your focus will be on establishing, managing and maintaining the project programme, ensuring all milestones, risks and opportunities are effectively managed throughout the construction lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning function on a major £70m construction project in Cardiff.
• Develop, manage and update detailed construction programmes using Primavera P6 (or equivalent planning software).
• Produce tender, contract and construction programmes.
• Monitor project progress against programme and identify risks, delays and mitigation measures.
• Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure programme accuracy and successful project delivery.
• Prepare short-term and long-term look-ahead programmes.
• Support project reporting, earned value analysis and programme updates.
• Attend project meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Drive best practice in planning, sequencing and programme management.

Requirements

We're looking for an experienced Construction Planner with a proven track record of delivering major building projects for a main contractor.

You'll ideally have:

• Significant experience as a Planner or Senior Planner within the construction industry.
• Experience delivering large-scale building projects valued at £30m+.
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and sequencing.
• Excellent working knowledge of Primavera P6 (preferred) or Asta Powerproject.
• Experience producing and managing detailed construction programmes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to identify programme risks and develop practical solutions.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related discipline (desirable).

Location

This role is based in Cardiff, with site-based working expected.
