Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Planning Manager on a 6 month rolling contract based in Stafford.

Role Summary

The Planning Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling the project programme, ensuring the works are delivered efficiently and in line with contractual milestones. You will act as the key link between the project management team, engineering, commercial, and site delivery teams, providing accurate scheduling data and early warning of any risks to the programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, issue, and maintain the master construction programme, including short-term and look-ahead schedules
  • Input into the Project Planning Policy and provide timely, accurate planning information to the Project Management Team
  • Produce and update programme schedules to track and control progress against baseline
  • Monitor actual progress versus planned progress, identifying variances and reporting on programme status
  • Develop detailed subcontractor and trade schedules to avoid clashes and ensure resources, labour, and materials arrive at the right place and time
  • Prepare labour, plant, and resource forecasts and cost/resource profiles aligned to budgets and estimates
  • Identify potential delays or problem areas early and propose mitigation or recovery measures to the Project Manager
  • Support the preparation of progress reports, KPIs, and updates for internal management and client reporting
  • Collaborate closely with commercial, engineering, procurement, and site teams to ensure the programme reflects project realities
  • Ensure planning activities comply with Client’s standards, contractual requirements, and relevant health, safety, and quality procedures
  • Contribute to tender and bid programmes as required

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Planning Manager or Senior Planning Engineer within construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency with planning software such as Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject; familiarity with Tilos is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and programme/cost interfaces
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and forecast risks
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, able to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors, and clients
  • Experience working within a BIM environment is desirable
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management practices relevant to construction planning
