Role Purpose

The Planning Manager will be an integral member of the Land Team, reporting directly to the Head of Planning & Development. This role is pivotal in managing the company’s land portfolio, focusing on both immediate and long-term strategic land promotions. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and evaluating potential development sites, devising effective planning strategies, and managing the planning process from inception to approval. Your expertise will directly impact the company’s ability to secure and develop prime residential sites, ensuring sustainable growth and value addition.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake planning appraisals of potential development sites.
• Collaborate with Land and Technical colleagues to manage the planning process.
• Promote the forward land bank through the planning system.
• Manage budgets, land schedules, and forecast contributions from the land bank.
• Ensure authority for land acquisition and liaise with internal departments.
• Maintain an efficient database for land policies.
• Determine and manage planning strategies and representations.
• Establish and maintain relationships with local authorities, agents, and landowners.
• Prepare papers for board packs and update the Executive Board on acquisitions.
• Advise on planning matters and policy changes.
• Attend management and planning meetings, providing updates on progress.

Requirements

• Sound planning technical knowledge – MRTPI status preferable.
• Minimum of three years’ experience with a residential developer or consultancy.
• Established contact base with Local Authorities, agents, and landowners.
• Proficient in Excel for budget and cashflow management.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work to deadlines and on own initiative.
• Ability to analyse data and policy.
• Clean UK driving licence.
