Job Title: Plant & Fleet Mechanic

Location: Sherburn in Elmet

Salary: £18.00+ per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job type: Full time, Permanent.

Working Hours:

  • Low Season: 08:00 - 17:00
  • Peak Season: 07:00 - 18:00 (as required)

Additional overtime and Saturday working opportunities are available during the busy summer season.

We are currently seeking a Plant & Fleet Mechanic to join our team at our headquarters in Sherburn-in-Elmet. This is a hands-on role responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of our fleet of plant equipment and commercial vehicles, helping to ensure they remain safe, compliant, and operational throughout our busy events season.

Our fleet includes forklifts, Moffett trucks, reach trucks, roto telehandlers, trailers, commercial vehicles, and various items of small plant equipment.

This position would suit an experienced plant, forklift, HGV, agricultural, or vehicle mechanic looking for a varied role within a fast-paced business.

The Role:

As Plant & Fleet Mechanic, you will be responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, inspections, fault diagnosis, and repairs across the company's fleet and plant equipment. You will work closely with the Operations and Transport teams to minimise downtime and ensure all equipment is maintained to a high standard.

The role is primarily based in our yard and workshop facilities, although some work will be undertaken outdoors, requiring flexibility in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and repairs on company plant and fleet vehicles.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and safety checks.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational faults.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service schedules, and inspection documentation.
  • Prepare equipment for LOLER inspections, servicing, and external audits where required.
  • Assist in managing parts stock.
  • Support vehicle and plant compliance requirements.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience in plant, forklift, agricultural, HGV, commercial vehicle, or automotive maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience carrying out routine servicing and repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and proactive approach to work.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working on forklifts, Moffett trucks, telehandlers, or other materials-handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Relevant mechanical or engineering qualifications.
  • Forklift operator licence.
  • HGV licence.
  • Experience with LOLER or PUWER inspection requirements.
  • Additional language skills.
