Pay: £21.67 per hour (including 20% shift allowance)

Overtime: Up to £32.51 per hour

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 2:30pm – 11:00pm; Friday, 2:30pm – 8:30pm

Job Description

TK Recruitment is seeking an experienced Plater / Structural Steel Fabricator to join an established structural steel fabrication business in Brompton-on-Swale, North Yorkshire.

This position offers an enhanced hourly rate for candidates looking to work a regular afternoon/backshift pattern within a busy heavy engineering environment.

The role involves fabricating large structural steel assemblies, working with heavy plate and producing accurate components from engineering drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble heavy structural steelwork, including beams, columns and supporting structures.

• Interpret detailed engineering drawings and fabrication specifications.

• Work with structural steel plates ranging from 5mm to 100mm.

• Carry out marking out, fitting, alignment and assembly.

• Use grinders, fabrication tools and associated workshop equipment.

• Perform heat straightening and dimensional corrections where necessary.

• Safely operate overhead cranes and handle heavy steel sections.

• Inspect finished assemblies for accuracy and quality.

• Work efficiently to production deadlines while maintaining high safety standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Strong previous experience in structural steel plating or heavy fabrication.

• Experience working with heavy plate, beams and columns.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings without supervision.

• Competent in marking out, fitting and assembling structural steel.

• Familiarity with overhead cranes and lifting operations.

• Good understanding of fabrication processes and workshop safety.

• Time-served experience or relevant fabrication qualifications preferred.

• Ability to pass a practical plating trade test.

Shift Pattern and Pay

• Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm – 11:00pm

• Friday: 2:30pm – 8:30pm

• Basic hourly rate: £21.67, including the shift allowance.

• Weekday overtime: £32.51 per hour.

• Saturday overtime may also be available.
