Our client is a well-established structural steel fabrication company with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality steelwork across commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects.

Due to an increasing workload, they are looking to recruit experienced Structural Platers to join their fabrication workshop on a permanent basis.

The Role

Working within a busy fabrication shop, you will be responsible for the fabrication and assembly of large structural steel components, ensuring work is completed accurately, safely and to the highest quality standards.

This is a hands-on role suited to experienced platers who are confident working from engineering drawings and assembling structural steelwork ready for welding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble structural steel components from engineering drawings.
  • Mark out, prepare and fit steel sections, plate and associated materials.
  • Read and interpret fabrication and general arrangement drawings.
  • Tack weld components where required (beneficial but not essential).
  • Use overhead cranes and workshop equipment safely.
  • Carry out dimensional checks to ensure components meet specification.
  • Work closely with welders and other fabrication personnel to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping and health & safety.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Structural Plater, Fabricator or Steel Plater.
  • Ability to read and work from detailed engineering drawings.
  • Experience fabricating heavy structural steelwork within a fabrication workshop.
  • Strong measuring, marking out and assembly skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach with a positive work ethic.

Desirable

  • Overhead crane certification.
  • FLT licence.
  • Experience tack welding.
  • Experience working on heavy fabrication, bridges, buildings or industrial steelwork.
