PLC Commissioning Engineer in East Preston, West Sussex

About the Role

Join a growing control systems company delivering bespoke industrial automation projects for customers across the UK and internationally.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work on a variety of automation projects. You’ll work with Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs and variable-speed drives, combining programming, fault-finding and commissioning while working directly with customers and engineering teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Commission industrial control panels and automation systems on customer sites.
• Program, configure, test and fault-find Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLC systems.
• Configure and commission HMI systems.
• Commission and troubleshoot variable-speed drives (VSDs/VFDs).
• Carry out I/O checks, functional testing and system commissioning.
• Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, PLC and control-system faults.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, control-panel drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Work with electrical and mechanical teams during installation and commissioning.
• Write and modify PLC, HMI and drive parameters/programs where required.
• Produce commissioning documentation, test records and handover information.
• Liaise professionally with customers, contractors and site personnel.
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).

Experience Required

• Practical experience commissioning industrial automation and control systems.
• Good knowledge of Siemens PLCs and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs.
• Experience with industrial HMI systems.
• Experience commissioning variable-speed drives/inverters.
• Ability to read and understand electrical control schematics.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work independently and methodically.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites in the UK and abroad.
