PLC Control Systems Engineer

Location: Cambridgeshire / London / Belvedere – Hybrid
Working Pattern: 2 days per week in the office, with UK site travel as required

About the Role

Notion4 Ltd is looking for an experienced PLC Control Systems Engineer with approximately 5–10 years' experience to join our growing controls team.

You will take ownership of control system projects from design and programming through to FAT, SAT, commissioning and customer handover, working across power and industrial automation projects.

Key systems include diesel generator controls, switchgear, ATS/AMF, synchronisation, load sharing, HMI and SCADA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems.

  • Produce FDS/DDS, I/O lists, cause & effect matrices, alarm schedules and test documentation.

  • Develop software from concept through to commissioning and handover.

  • Configure and integrate DSE, ComAp and Woodward generator controllers.

  • Develop generator synchronisation, load sharing, load management, ATS/AMF and breaker control systems.

  • Interface PLCs with protection relays, power meters, UPS, BMS and EMS systems.

  • Lead and support FAT, SAT, I/O checks, loop testing and commissioning.

  • Troubleshoot PLC hardware/software, HMI/SCADA and industrial communications.

  • Support RAMS, quality procedures and relevant electrical, machinery and functional safety standards.

Essential Experience

  • Strong industrial PLC/control systems experience from design through to commissioning.

  • Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Studio 5000.

  • Siemens TIA Portal, including SCL and/or Ladder.

  • WinCC / WinCC Unified and/or FactoryTalk View.

  • Experience with structured, maintainable PLC software.

  • Good understanding of industrial networking and protocols including Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP and OPC UA.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.

  • Experience working with generator/power control systems is highly desirable.

  • Understanding of electrical, machinery and functional safety principles.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK customer sites.

Desirable: Schneider EcoStruxure, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff TwinCAT, AVEVA/Wonderware, Ignition, IEC 61850, DNP3, functional safety certification and CompEx/ATEX awareness.

Qualifications

Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronic, Control/Automation or Mechatronics Engineering, with previous experience in industrial controls, automation or power systems.
