Plumber - Prison & Planned Maintenance
Involve Recruitment
Plumber – Prison & Planned Maintenance
Location: West Midlands – Multiple Prison Sites
Employment: Permanent
Pay: Hourly Rate – Dependent on Experience
Overtime: Available at Time & Half / Double Time
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Plumber to join an established building services and maintenance team working across the prison sector throughout the West Midlands.
This is a permanent position offering long-term stability, excellent benefits and the opportunity to work across a number of secure sites.
The role will primarily involve Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and general plumbing works within operational prison environments.
Previous experience working within prisons or other secure environments would be highly advantageous. However, candidates with strong commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, public sector or facilities maintenance experience will also be considered, provided they are comfortable working within a prison environment and able to meet the requirements of working on secure sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across prison facilities.
- Responding to reactive plumbing and maintenance requirements.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs and remedial works.
- General plumbing maintenance across washrooms, welfare facilities, accommodation and other areas of the prison estate.
- Carrying out basic installation and replacement works where required.
- Working safely and professionally within a secure environment.
- Completing maintenance records and relevant paperwork.
- Liaising with site management and other trades to ensure works are completed efficiently.
- Supporting other maintenance activities where appropriate and within your skill set.
- Working across multiple prison sites throughout the West Midlands.
Birmingham Key Holder Requirement
As part of the position, the successful candidate will also become a key holder specifically for the Birmingham site.
This does not mean being responsible for the security or management of the facility. The key holder element is primarily to provide additional support when required, allowing access and assisting other trades working within the facility.
This is an important part of the role and candidates must be comfortable taking on this additional responsibility.
What We're Looking For
Ideally, you will have:
Proven experience as a qualified/experienced Plumber.
Previous experience working within prisons or secure environments would be highly desirable.
Alternatively, strong commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, public sector or facilities maintenance experience.
Experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance.
Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
A professional and reliable approach to work.
The ability to work independently and as part of a wider maintenance team.
Good communication skills.
A willingness to work within the prison environment.
A full UK driving licence would be advantageous due to the requirement to travel between sites.
The ability to satisfy the necessary security and vetting requirements for working within prisons.
Why Consider the Role?
This is a particularly attractive opportunity for an experienced plumber looking for long-term, stable employment rather than constantly moving from project to project.
The work is structured around maintenance and PPM, with regular breaks and periods of downtime built into the working day. Although the position is paid for the full contracted hours, the working environment can be less physically demanding and less pressured than some traditional construction plumbing roles.
It could therefore suit an experienced plumber who is looking for a steady, secure and sustainable long-term position.
