Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Porter to join our Facilities team at Burton & South Derbyshire College. This is a vital frontline role supporting the day-to-day operations of the college, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-organised environment for staff, learners, and visitors.
The successful candidate will provide a high-quality portering service across the campus, including room setups, internal moves, and general operational support, whilst complying with health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Setting up and clear rooms for teaching sessions, events, and examinations
- Moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries safely across campus
- Assisting with receipt and distribution of goods and materials
- Carrying out basic maintenance and minor repairs as required
- Supporting security arrangements including locking/unlocking buildings
- Ensuring all areas are clean, tidy, and safe, reporting hazards promptly
- Providing a helpful and professional service to staff, students, and visitors
- Assisting during open days, enrolment, and special events
This role is typically shift-based, including early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends depending on college needs.
Applicants should be qualified to, or willing to work towards, Level 2 English and Maths. Evidence of qualifications is required.
